frequently asked questions:How long will it take my kids to learn to swim? Some people think if their kids can save themselves they know how to swim. I really believe every child should know their strokes and be able to swim for fitness. I have countless adults tell me they wish they learned to swim better, its a great non impact cardiovascular activity. When kids reach 3 or 4 years old they usually remember what they learned the year before if they swam all summer, home and lessons. I hesitate to say how long it will take because I feel most drownings occur because parents "think" their child can swim because they had lessons and then they become to comfortable and sometimes less observant. It should be a priority to have your kids in the pool as much as possible during the summer months so that they become more proficient swimmers. The best way to get better is practice, practice.
Children under five and adolescents between the ages of 15-24 have the highest drowning rates. -American Academy of Pediatrics Of all preschoolers who drown, 70 percent are in the care of one or both parents at the time of the drowning and 75 percent are missing from sight for five minutes or less. -Fire authorityIn 10 states - Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington - drowning surpasses all other causes of death to children age 14 and under.-Fire authorityWhy do I have to pay in advance?I need to know exactly how many kids are going to be in each class. The only way to guarantee is to have you pay in advance. I can't put in 10 or 15 kids like a dance class can.
What is your refund policy? If you cancel before your lesson starts and you've already paid I take $5 off your refund for the processing fee and you lose your registration fee.. If something happens after you've began lessons that requires you to stop- with a dr. note, I take $7 for each class you attended off your refund. No other refunds are givenCan my other kids swim when its not their lesson time?Leave the teenagers at home but when its not one of your kids turns for lessons they can hang out in the pool. Beginners need to stay in the spa and you MUST watch them. Older kids can play in the deep end, but I'll have them get out if they get to rowdy!
I want my child to swim more can I sign up for 2 classes? Its a good idea, if you have the time, to sign up for a M/W and T/TH session or add in a private lesson on Fridays. This is highly recommended if you are
not going to take them swimming any other time!
Can I drop off my kids?I need 2 parents to stay for the beginners class, I need the extra eyes. In beginners plus I need one parent to stay. Strokes and swim team classes you may drop off the kids. I want to have a very SAFE enviroment when you stay please keep your eyes on the pool, kids are sneaky, I don't ever want a accident.
How can I get my kids in back to back lessons? My class descriptions are very general because I cater to the childs ability. If you think your child needs a strokes class but only beginners plus fits in your schedule sign them up for the bp class. If you have new swimmers always put them in the beginners class then just put your older child in the adjacent class. Are there make up lessons?
No. Unless its my fault or the weather. I've never cancelled a lesson for personal reasons though. If its the weathers fault, only lightning or severe dust, then I'll make it up on Friday. The thing about swim lessons is I can't have to many kids in a class. If I do make ups then the classes are overcrowded! You can check if one of my classes isn't full then I may let you in but that doesn't usually happen until August.
Why don't you go to peoples houses?
I did it for 8 years! I have 4 kids now and its just not very efficient. Some occasions I will travel to homes but its fairly expensive. ($45 per 30 min, 60 min minimum)
Do I get in the pool?In parent/tot- yes. All other classes- I welcome you in the pool for timid children but it is NOT required. Some kids are so scared of being away from mom that they will not do anything I ask. In those cases we'll work together to get them more comfortable.
Is your pool clean?
When we moved to this house I remodeled the pool and electrical equiptment and installed a salt water system. The salt water system is great for kids skin and eyes, its commercial size salt to keep up with the amount of kids I have in the pool. We also supplement with chlorine when its warm. I've gone through 3 pool guys and finally found BOBS POOL BUTLER, he's by far the best! He'll come out right away if there are any problems and keeps it sparkly clean.
What kind of pool do you have?
I bought this house for the pool! In all my years of going to different pools I knew just what I wanted. Its a L shaped pool with a deep end and diving board so I can teach diving, synchro, treading water and life saving skills. The other part of the L is the shallow end with big steps for little kids. Its big enough for kids to swim all of their strokes. I got a new slide- the
turbo twister , its awesome! There are little tiles in the pool for the kids to swim to- Nemo, a turtle and some fish. I have a attached spa that I use for beginners to get comfortable in the water.
Can I use the bathroom, is there a place to change?I'm getting a porta potty this year! Bring the kids in ther suits.
Where do I park?
We have a HOA but they haven't said anything yet. Please park down the street or in my driveway but don't block anyone elses driveway. Thanks.
Where do you live?
East Mesa- Higley & Brown area, email me for specifics.
How do I know what level to put my child in?I cater to each individual in the class, if your child has no fear and is ready to jump off the diving board the first class, I let them! I really believe that kids learn well from each other. In the beginners class I've had great success mixing ages and abilities. The older kids like to demonstrate and the little kids learn from them. Best of all you can get both of your kids in the same class!(this is a great class for new swimmers ages 3-5) I've added the 2 year old beginner class this year for kids who have never been swimming or away from mom, its a small class so they are not overwhelmed. In the beginners plus I really like for the kids to be able to float on their backs and take a breath while swimming. We'll do a lot more stroke work but many 3 year olds can handle it. I've had up to age 7 in this class, I make them feel like my helper while they learn to swim. Any other questions just email me. Your kids probaby forgot a lot over the winter if you think they'll catch on quickly put them in the same class they ended with last year. What do I bring?Towel, suit, swim diapers (if needed).
Goggles? If your child WILL NOT swim without their goggles its a battle we don't need to fight right away. If your child has no preference its better to learn without goggles. If the kids fall in the pool they most likely won't have goggles on so they need to learn how to save themselves without them. The older kids should have a pair because they will be swimming more laps.
